Braid Fishing Line

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

There are many types of fishing lines, but the braid fishing line continues to be used by many enthusiasts. Its strength is one reason, as it is considerable compared to the diameter. Its resistance to abrasion and knot force are also among its prominent features.

The Composition and Materials

The older variants are constructed out of linen and cotton. However, the new ones are made of Dacron, Spectra and other synthetic materials. The high quality products have breaking strength that extends past the pound for test rating.

Virtually all these lines are opaque. Due to this fact, monofilament is attached on its end. This monofilament works as a leader. In addition, this will make the lines less conspicuous to the fish.

Older models usually work with only specific models. The newer ones however, are compatible with various fishing reel types. However, they remain known for being bait casting reels.

Knots

Two knots are employed for the braided lines: the Uni and Palomar knots.

How to Make the Uni Knot

Place the line through the eye hook. On the standing line, create a loop. Pass it in the main line and loop. Repeat this step eight times. Dampen the line and place the knot to the eye hook. Trim the end as you pull the tag.

How to Make the Palomar Knot

To make the Palomar knot for the braid fishing lines, thread the line in the eye hook. Place the line back through the eye. Create a loop on the side.

Create one knot with the loop and the line. Take the looped end inside the loop created by the knot. To make the knot, place the loop side on the hook. Wet this line. Keep pulling the tag until it gets tight.

Assessing the Durability

Start by checking the line strength. Not all products are equal; the good ones can be used in saltwater and freshwater. You should also evaluate the way it conducts retrieval. In terms of retrieval, a good model will make it simple.

The cheaper products are liable to break down quickly. The good units will cost more, but you can use them for years. There are a lot of products available online to choose from.

Fishing Tips

Always use a monofilament; unless you do this, the fish will see the line and get scared. These lines can work with various types of rods, but some are for specific kinds only. Refer to the product specs to be sure.

Pay attention when you are using the fishing line. Ensure there is drag set so the fish does not snap the hooks from the mouth. When setting up the hook, try not to fasten it too tight. This might cause them to snap. For the braid cutting, you have the choice of scissors or clippers.

Because the braid fishing line is durable and can be used in various settings, its use and acceptance is very wide. As long as you know how the device works, you should be able to use it in various fishing situations.
